The short version
Don't create an account — you already have one waiting. Soft Serv connects to your school's Canvas, so the first time you click a Soft Serv assignment in Canvas, your account is created and linked automatically. No signup form, no password, no email verification.
Heads up: the "Try it free" demo signup on this site is for instructors exploring the teaching tools. It creates a limited teacher account — signing up there won't connect you to your class, and your work wouldn't reach your instructor.
Using Soft Serv through Canvas

Open your course in Canvas
Log in to Canvas the way you always do — Soft Serv never asks for a separate password.

Click the Soft Serv assignment
Your instructor posts simulations as ordinary Canvas assignments. Click one and the simulation opens right there in Canvas.

Practice and submit
Hold the conversation, then press End & Submit. Your score and feedback appear on screen and land in the Canvas gradebook automatically.
You'll need a device with a microphone (and camera, for recorded simulations) and a modern browser — Chrome works best.
Invited by email instead?
Some instructors use email invitations rather than Canvas. If you got a Soft Serv invitation email, just follow the link in it — accepting the invitation creates your account and adds you to the course in one step.
Want to sign in on the website?
You don't need to — Canvas is the front door. But if you'd like to sign in at app.trysoftserv.com directly (for example, to review your past sessions), you can add a password to your existing account:

Go to the sign-in page
Visit app.trysoftserv.com/login and click Forgot password?

Use your school email
Enter the same email address your school uses in Canvas — that's the address your Soft Serv account is under.

Set your password
Follow the emailed link to set a password. From then on you can sign in on the website any time — your Canvas assignments keep working exactly as before.
Common questions
- "I tried to log in and it didn't work." Your account probably doesn't have a password yet — accounts created from Canvas don't need one. Use Forgot password with your school email to set one, or just launch from Canvas.
- "I don't see a Soft Serv assignment in Canvas." Your instructor may not have published it yet — ask them. Assignments only appear once the instructor posts them.
- "I accidentally created a demo account." No harm done — just go back to Canvas and use the assignment there. You can ignore the demo account, or ask your instructor to have it cleaned up.
- Something else? Your instructor is the fastest path — they can see your course and reach us directly.
